Europe is very well linked to Berlin with various low-cost carriers offering daily non-stop flights to this city.

Berlin Tegel Airport (TXL) is the most important international airport in Berlin. Find out the best ways to get to the city center from this airport terminal.
Only 8 kilometers (4.97 miles) from the city center, Berlin Tegel Airport (TXL) is the main airport in the German capital; however, it is expected to close in 2018. The new Berlin Brandenburg Airport is currently under construction and will completely replace Tegel Airport.

One of the main reasons why the airport is closing is its closeness to the city center, as the aircraft noise is unbearable for the neighboring houses.

Berlin Brandenburg Airport

Located 40 kilometers (25 miles) south of Berlin, Berlin Brandenburg Willy Brandt Airport (BER) opened in 2020 to replace the city's old airports and become the new entry point into Berlin.

A Long History

Brandenburg Airport was designed to make up for the shortcomings of Tegel and Tempelhof airports, two airfields that had become outdated and could not be expanded due to their central location.

After a nine-year delay and a huge controversy when the initial budget for its construction was doubled, Brandenburg Airport opened in October 2020 with the aim of becoming the new point of entry to Berlin.

The new airport exceeds the size of 2,000 football fields and is divided into three terminals filled with stores and restaurants. Terminals 1 and 2 are linked together, while Terminal 5 occupies the site of the former Schönefeld Airport.
