Prof. Sonja Bröer is a recognized specialist in veterinary pharmacology. Her research focuses on

regenerative approaches to neurodegenerative diseases, with an emphasis on epilepsy. She holds a W3 Professorship at FU Berlin. A combination of translational research, industry experience, and international collaboration marks her academic career. Key career stages include her role as Senior Scientist at a biotech start-up in the US, where she led preclinical studies supporting FDA IND applications for cell therapies targeting epilepsy. Before this, she completed postdoc research at TiHo Hannover (2013–2016), focusing on neuroinfectiology, complemented by research stays in France and at Boehringer Ingelheim. Her education includes a PhD in neurosciences (2013), and veterinary medical training at TiHo Hannover.

Sonja Bröer has received a CURE Epilepsy Award (2025) for her research, a nationwide “Professor of the Year” (2023) Prize, and a teaching prize from FU Berlin (2024).

Her publication record comprises approx 40 peer-reviewed articles, including original research in high-impact journals (e.g., Science Advances, PNAS, Cell Stem Cell). Her work contributes to understanding epilepsy, neuroinflammation, and innovative therapeutic approaches.
