Welcome to the 38th ESVN-ECVN Symposium!
Welcome address
Dear Colleagues
On behalf of the European College of Veterinary Neurology and the European Society of Veterinary Neurology, it is our great pleasure to invite you to your 38th ESVN-ECVN Annual Symposium in Berlin, Germany, on the 17th to the 19th of September 2026.
Visit us in the German capital, where every stone exudes history and every local can tell their own story about the city's construction, division and reunification. Berlin is also a surprisingly green city with many parks, lakes, street trees, and breathtakingly beautiful surroundings, including the old Prussian city of Potsdam. During the day, you can walk along the former wall strip, visit the Wall Museum and in the evening immerse yourself in one of the countless pubs, restaurants and clubs in Kreuzberg, Friedrichshain and Prenzlauer Berg. In addition, there are many free attractions such as the East Side Gallery, Checkpoint Charlie and the new Humboldt Forum (City Palace) waiting to be visited.
The symposium will take place in one of the old cinema auditoriums of the ‘Kosmos’ cinema in Friedrichshain, which was converted into a conference hall a few years ago without losing its East German architectural charm. The cinema is nestled in the street along Frankfurter Allee, houses that were built after the Second World War based on the Moscow model. In 1953, this was the starting point of the East German uprising, which was ended by Soviet tanks. Today, there are many alternative pubs in the area, and it is only a few underground stations away from Berlin's centre at Alexander Square.
‘Veterinary Encephalitis’ has become a broad field in veterinary neurology. However, we will try to expand our knowledge of ‘antibody receptor encephalitis’ and ‘multiple sclerosis in humans’ through the invited speakers but also learn about the latest developments and therapeutic approaches in veterinary encephalitis. At the same time, we want to try out new forms of presentation, such as an expert discussion panel with hopefully lively audience participation and a commented literature summary.
The Residents’ Day will be held on the 17th (Thursday). Combined lectures of the Neurology department of Veterinary Neurology of the University of Hanover and the Swiss Veterinary Neuro-Pathology will hopefully enlighten the importance and potential of cerebrospinal fluid in veterinary neurology.
We look forward to seeing you all in Berlin!
